Receptive and Expressive Language

School-aged children with language disorders and/or language-based learning disabilities need support in their underlying language skills. Sessions may target listening and reading comprehension, vocabulary use and understanding, oral and written grammar and syntax skills, narrative language skills, and more. Such therapy may be essential for children to improve their academic and social functioning.

Mikaela’s knowledge of public and private school curriculums throughout the NYC area allow her to connect students’ growth in their verbal and written language skills to their classroom curriculums, helping them thrive as learners and communicators.

Writing Intervention

For many children with language-based learning disabilities and executive functioning challenges, writing in school can be particularly difficult. Mikaela is dedicated to helping children succeed throughout the entire writing process. She offers support in not only sentence structure/syntax, punctuation, and grammar, but also in organizing and developing well-structured paragraphs and multi-paragraph essays.

From brainstorming and planning to crafting a coherent essay, Mikaela helps children navigate each stage of writing, making the process more manageable and effective.

Literacy Intervention

Orton-Gillingham is a highly structured, multi sensory approach to literacy instruction. Mikaela’s training in this approach, coupled with her experience with speech sound disorders, expressive and receptive language disorders, and language based learning disabilities, enables her to meet both the language and literacy needs of students.

Whether your child needs help with decoding (i.e. word reading) or encoding (i.e. spelling), including those with Dyslexia, Mikaela’s tailored sessions can provide the focused support they need to thrive.

Stuttering Therapy

Many children go through a typical period of disfluency when they are young, however if certain risk-factors are present and the stuttering persists through childhood, they may require intervention. Stuttering intervention targets both the physical and emotional components of stuttering, as well as parent education and training. Mikaela’s fluency approach values supporting an individual in their journey to becoming a confident and capable communicator who isn’t limited by their stutter.

Early Intervention

Speech and language services for children aged 18 months to around 3 years, focusing on enhancing delayed expressive and receptive language skills through engaging, play-based sessions. These sessions are designed to be child-led, making learning enjoyable and effective.

In addition to working directly with your child, Mikaela provides support and training for parents and caregivers. This ensures that you feel confident and equipped to support your child’s communication development at home.

Speech Sound Disorders

These services address a child’s articulation and/or phonological disorders. A child may have difficulty with producing specific speech sounds, and/or they may present with patterns of speech sound errors. Either way, focused intervention to help them remediate their speech sound errors and become effective communicators is essential.
